Custom Springs: Excellence That Stands the Test of Time

Power Technology Combines Tradition and Innovation with Certifications, Patents, and Industry 5.0

Founded in 2016, Power Technology S.r.l. represents the modern evolution of a story that began in 1948 with Mollificio Prealpino. With the acquisition of MTP Spring System in 2020, the company merged decades of team expertise with production capacity, becoming a benchmark in the spring and elastic components sector.

Roberto Tomasina, son of the founder, recalls key milestones: “The company started as a pure spring manufacturer, growing to over 110 employees in its golden years—a time when every spring was almost ‘caressed’ by the skilled hands of our workers. Today, thanks to automation and new technologies, we’ve optimized processes without losing the artisanal attention that sets us apart.”

The turning point came in 2014 with the birth of Power Technology S.r.l., a commercial entity that in 2020 acquired MTP Spring System, inheriting its entire technological legacy. “We didn’t just buy a company,” clarifies Alessandro Pavanati, “but merged 70 years of know-how into a dynamic new reality, retaining all key personnel and investing in new machinery.”

Pavanati, who became CEO in 2020, brought an international perspective: “I’ve steered the company toward more vertical management models, drawing from my experience in American multinationals. Our goal? Expanding into new markets while maintaining the flexibility that defines us.”

Custom Springs: A World of Applications

Power Technology doesn’t just manufacture—it offers a full-service package:

  • Technical consulting and calculations for custom springs
  • CAD-CAM design and in-house tool development
  • Rapid prototyping and pre-series production
  • Quality control with metrology labs equipped with 3D machines
  • Traceability systems and advanced logistics (FIFO, Kanban)

“We don’t produce standard items,” explains Pavanati. “Every spring is customized—starting from the client’s drawings or technical specs, we study materials, loads, and geometries to develop tailor-made solutions.”
Applications span diverse industries: automotive, motorsports, medical, appliances, energy, and more.

Innovation and Sustainability

The company continuously invests in Industry 5.0“We’re upgrading machinery and implementing new management systems to integrate production and quality control,” says Pavanati. Certifications are a priority—ISO 9001 is already in place, with ISO 14001 (environmental) on the way.

A recent patent, developed under Pavanati’s leadership, showcases innovation: “It’s a component for heating systems, a sector where I have experience. It demonstrates how we transfer know-how across different fields.”

Pillars of Success

  • Flexibility: “We’re available 24/7, offering end-to-end service from design to delivery,” emphasizes Tomasina.
  • Competitiveness: Affordable pricing without quality compromises.
  • Experience: 75 years of history and a specialized team.

Challenges in the Global Market

Pavanati highlights critical issues: “Clear industrial policies are lacking. Europe is divided, and decisions like phasing out combustion engines in a few years risk destabilizing entire sectors.”

Another challenge is competition from industry giants: “Some players outsource to regions with 30-40% lower labor and tax costs, weakening local economies. Moreover, constant demands for new quality standards and certifications are becoming increasingly burdensome in managing production cycles.”

Looking Ahead

Despite uncertainties, Power Technology remains forward-focused: “We’re targeting resilient sectors like appliances and energy, exploring new partnerships to strengthen our presence,” concludes Pavanati.

A company that—between tradition and innovation—continues to weather market storms, always with one eye on the customer and the other on the future.
